Happy Halloween

Halloween crafting has been happening at Chez RC. The Mayor has been completley enamoured with Underdog since he saw the movie this summer. So while pursing Etsy I found Holly and SuperflyKidz. The best cape and totally awesome service! I highly recommend her shop.

Then it was just a simple matter of getting a large red shirt and sewing the "U" on. In fact I did 2 shirts, in case ya know?

"Have No Fear, Underdog is here!"It was so cute that we even dressed Gunnar in the outfit (he was a very good sport)This is his "UP, Up and Away" pose. (confused Underdog and Superdog)

I have one more picture to get.... I contacted Holly about a special order- a Webkinz size cape! She was great and made one exactly to fit The Mayor's beagle webkinz. I promptly made a matching outfit and it is rockin' cute! I'll get the pic later today and show you.

Later...

Here he is with his webkinz in matching outfits!

And here is a closeup of the sidekick....

Knitting content to resume later this week....

Friday Funny

"How the fight started"

I rear-ended a car this morning. So there we are alongside the road and slowly the driver gets out of the car . . and you know how you just get sooo stressed at life that stuff seems to get funny?

Yeah, well, I could NOT believe it . . . he was a DWARF!

He storms over to my car, looks up at me and says, "I AM NOT HAPPY!"

So, I look down at him and say, "Well, which one are you then?"

. . and that's when the fight started .

knitting a baby sweater, back soon.

Saturday Sky + Dyeing

Warning! Picture heavy post!

The Sky on the way to pick up Amanda for our dyeing class at Loop (no Officer, I'm not taking pictures while driving....)

On the way we saw some Peter Pan buses. (never saw them around before) In fact there were 3 Peter Pan buses and we were almost squashed! Of course Amanda quips "We're a Peter Pan sandwich!" ouch
We got there without any mishaps- this time. We even found on street parking without a meter! Free parking!
Finally at Loop we meet Beth Casey of Lorna's Laces, dying goddess. She talked about how she got into the business and where she gets her color inspiration and dying yarn of course!
This class was so cool.... we dyed 2 skeins of LL's Shepherd Sock each. I always thought dyeing would be so messy ( and Craig the owner crazy since the shop is all WHITE) but it was pretty contained. We used lots of plastic wrap, aprons and gloves of course. Just splash and squish..

Here is a picture of Amanda working on her wool.
And here is me! (notice I employ the 2 finger squish method)

Once I got home I nuked my sausage of dyed yarn to set the color, then rinsed. Here ya go: I think I was too ambitious with the colors... maybe I should have only used 3? But they were all so cool looking and I thougt I was being reserved using only 4 of the 6 choices.. maybe I should have just gone for it and done a bit of all 6....anyway I have a bit of knowledge now so watch out!

It was lots of fun and I learned its not as messy as I thought and totally do-able in my kitchen. I see more dyeing in my future.

(uh-oh. need more supplies....)

MeMe'd

sUsAn tagged me for the book meme

You have to open the book you're currently reading on page 161 and read the fifth sentence on the page, then think of 5 bloggers to tag with.

OK , so sadly not every book I'm currently reading has 161 pages (no, not comic books- knitting pattern books!)
here goes:

"Hurry inside and lock the door?"

"Rather than allowing him to avoid the satirs, support him by holding his leash short and tight, to prevent him from losing balance."

Ha!

Now I'm tagging: Amanda, Trish, Charity, Kristy, and Noolie

go for it!

Eye Candy Friday

I'm not offically in that ring, but I wanted to share this:The latest installment of the Yarn Pirate Booty Club! The colorway is called "Killer Bees" I need socks in this yarn NOW (plus 2 YP knitting needles 24" size 1 and size 2 for Magic Looping, neat) Now what pattern to use?
And speaking of Yarn Pirate, check this out, another prize! Ms. YP had a contest a while ago and I was one of the winners.
You can guess which items The Mayor grabbed to put in HIS treasure chest. (I took the tissue case back to keep in the car!) Fun stuff!
While I'm at it.. a bad pic of Carol's socks. Done and awaiting delivery.
And another recent FO- "My So Called Scarf"pattern by Sheep in the City. Done in Manos color 113 ,2 skeins,on Denise 11's.A neat pattern, easy to memorize . I think it looks woven on the one side.
I may even do another in a solid "manley" color for a just in case giftie.
OTN: baby sweater to do for a pre-k friend , Monkey socks, Spa sets and some other stuff I'm forgetting...
Tomorrow is the "Dye Yarn with Beth Casey of Lorna's Laces" class at Loop in Philly. I'm going with Amada so there should be pictures (we will remind each other). Gonna be fun!

Saturday Evening Sky

Hayride tonight with a bonfire, hotdogs and smores! Perfect weather and lots of kids for the Mayor to run around. Fall has finally arrived, Thank God!

Well, the Internet has spoken and my yarn substitution for the 3Squares 2Sleeves is a no go. Way too fuzzy and with me being short and roundish, well it wouldn't be a good look. sigh. Instead I'm using that money to purchase some Herbalife products and see if they help reduce my um, circumference? (well them and better eating in general Plus some exercise- you know the drill)
I'll stash dive and see if I have a better substitution or maybe even re-do the pattern in a lighter weight wool... Bummer I thought I'd get away with a quickie FO for me!

Have a great weekend!

FO's soon, really

Opinions Requested

This is the Three Squares and Two Sleeves sweater in Creative Knitting, Nov 07 I think this would be great for this winter, slopping about at home or with my pre-schoolers. BUT I don't like this yarn ( Lion Brand Romance, 85% acrylic,15% mohair) and it only comes in 4 colors. bleh.
I was looking at
yarn instead. Its Suri Dream from Knit Picks. 74% Suri Alpaca, 22% Peruvian Highland Wool, 4% Nylon . Super soft, plus it comes in a ton more colors... I think I'll pick Stone or Black Forest.
I'm reasonably certain I can get gauge. My question is-- will it be "too furry"? and make me looke like a Wookie? or maybe an Ewok (since I'm vertically challenged) Or will it be the soft and squishy sweater I live in this winter?
Anyone? Whatdoyouthink?
I have the Knit Picks web site up and ready to order....or not.
I got 1 ok do it and 1 Ewok. GAH!
Has anyone seen or worked with the Suri Dream???? Can you let me know the level of "furr"?

Saturday Sky

Its still like summer here.... 89 degrees with 96% humidity. bleh. I will be SO GLAD when the weather changes. The Mayor and I went to the Grist Mill today. We met Kim the Potter and her son, LT. I'm shocked neither fell into the water. They were both running around and getting VERY close to the edge.
The hayride was nice and long, with lots of hay in the cart! The boys had a blast.
In knitting news, I'm still knitting spa sets for Christmas. 3 down, 9 to go. I'm making good time, but its boring for the blog. I did a bit of spinning this week too... a batt from Amanda's Etsy shop called Goth Princess! Fun stuff... I'll post a pic soon.
Have a great weekend

Blue & Red, Red & Blue

Mom-mom has a friend who has grandaughters who are pregnant and expecting around the same time. (got that?) She asked me to knit baby items for the little cousins and this is what I came up with: Kyle's Kap in Plymouth Encore and matching mittens, all in 6-18 month size, size 7 needles. The mitten pattern is my own, cobbled together from the Knitters Handy Book of Patterns and an idea. See the big thumb? Makes it easier to get the mitten on wiggley hands!

And of course The Mayor, upon seeing me knit the mittens, asks if they are for him..... Uh, no. "oh, I think I would like some mittens for my cold hands." Whoot! he is asking for handknits! Now let's see if he actually wears them! He picked the blue cuff and red hand, I chose to to a pesant thumb and rounded top so they go on either hand. Again, pattern my own. (aren't I getting clever? I only had to rip 2xs!) The picture looks like they are 2 different sizes, but really they match just fine.
Now I'm finishing up a project for a friend... she started socks and has been recently told she is not allowend to knit for an undetermined amount of time (arthritis and other problems). I'm not sure if I'll blog them or not...
Oh and I got another batt from Amanda's Etsy shop! I should be finished spindle spinning that soon. Its called "Goth Princess"- heh!
