Last Post of 2006

I want to get all caught up on FO's and Christmas before the New Year!

First Christmas-
Aran Ware from Kara Irish Pottery from DH. I had sent him a link to this site back in JUNE and he remembered! It is so beautiful. Pottery and knitting combined. The perfect gift for me.

Speaking of perfect gifts, check out the books my Mom gave me. Knitting AND crafts! Yippie! Now on to knitting FO's-
First 2 Marshmallow hats from the Itty Bitty Hats book. Love the book, Love the hats! These are going to my girls on Long Island. The smaller (6 to 12 months size) is Karabella Aurora 8 and Mist stranded together on size 7's. The larger is Karabella Aurora 8 again with Dive Mohair Kiss stranded together, again on 7's. I'm hoping they are not TOO big, but big enough, ya know?
Next up 2 more Calorimetry. Again in Frog Tree Merino on 6's. I took the pic before I got to the shop for buttons and one has been gifted already. (the other will be gifted tomorrow). Definately go down 1 or 2 needle sizes when you knit this pattern! It REALLY stretches.(mine stretched a bunch, so I am reknitting AGAIN) But, It takes less than a ball of yarn and knits up QUICK. My favorite kind of patterns.

That's it! It has been a great year and I have made a bunch of new friends. I am really looking foward to 07 and more fun knitting.
Happy Happy New Year!
Luv U!
Buh-Bye!

Saturday Sky + FO

Here is the sky peeking through this morning.

And here is the latest FO from the Monthly Dishcloth KAL. Done in Peaches & Cream potpourri ombre, size 7's!

Probably will NOT be posting for a few days so Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year!

Do Over

Here is a new pic of my Calorimetry, redone on smaller needles. The fit is MUCH MUCH better now. I'm wondering if they have the gauge wrong on Knitty?

Here is a close up of my nifty vintage SQUARE button. I pulled this out of the box of buttons I have from my Great Aunt. Neat Huh? I am very much pleased with the do over and am now thinking of neck covering I want to match my *set*. Just for my friend M4, a pic of another re-do. The lights on the mantle in the office mysteriously died, so I replaced them with Icicle lights. I really like how this came out too!

I'm on a roll!

Nothing to do with knitting....

Lookie what we received yesterday! Exotic meats! This was shipped from Broken Arrow Ranch courtesy of DH's DS#1. It may seem a little strange (especially when you read the fine print) but is VERY tasty. Actually, DH is a little disappointed since there are no South Texas Antelope Filets this year.

This post its brought to you by Broken Arrow Ranch and the crazy sense of humor of M4. Girlfriend, this post is for you!

Prezzies for My Peeps

Here are some stitch markers I made to give to my knitting friends for Christmas. Or as I like to say to DH, "My Peeps"! As in "Yo, I'm goin' up to the club house to hang wit my peeps" (translation, I'm going to the yarn shop to sit & knit) I'm such a wierdo, I pretend I'm cool! I also crack myself up and will giggle at my own thoughts as I sit and knit.... So I think the girls liked them... Amanda got a HUGE kick when she opened up her envelope. (last week when we FINALLY were able to get together after trying for weeks)
Scooter and Miss Laura at the shop took them off the tags and onto the current WIP, so that's a compliment.
Oh and my friend Jen was here with the kids today and she got a set too! I KNOW she liked them, from the way she laughed!

Christmas Giving

The Yarn Harlot is trying to raise some $$ for Médecins Sans Frontières/ Doctors Without Borders. Why not stop on over and give a little?

While you are at it, go to Erin's and buy her Sweet Mary Janes pattern! She is donating the proceeds to MSW/DWB. Its a great pattern that only uses 100 to 150 yards of worsted yarn!

Giving is good. Getting a new pattern is nice too!

**** NOTE added later. Just got an email from Jen @ Piddleloop (the site that sells the Sweet Mary Jane pattern for Erin) and she is going to be away for the holidays and closing the shop from 12/21 till 12/28! So remember that when ordering your pattern! And look at the Piddleloop site sometime in January for more ways to contribute to DWB

I think she likes them ?

Oma Blu is going to be visiting her daughter over Christmas and New Year so we exchanged gifts early. Actually she stopped by last week (even before the cookies) and gave us & the boy a gift. So back to the point.... I went over today and gave her the socks. They fit well and she was pretty happy! She was planning what outfits she was going to wear with them. Cute. So I said you better make sure you like them because you are getting another pair for your birthday! LOL

Calorimetry

Calorimetry is FINISHED! Quick knit and fun. Done in the Frog Tree merino to match my fingerless gloves. Bad pic, but you get the idea.
Notes: its a bit wider than I liked, so I flipped the front up like a hat brim. Also, I used 8's, but can probably go down to 7's easily remedied by changing the button hole (darned loose knitter) This wool is just so squishy and YUMMY! I'm thinking I need a neck something to match the set, what do you think? A keyhole scarf or maybe a gaiter...hhmmmmm

* I just decided it was too wide and was just going to stretch past my liking, so its been frogged. I have already cast on again, this time using 7's and a crochet cast on, since you really see the edges and I want them to match!
I'll repost when finished.
** this happens frequently. I decide after a project is DONE that there is something I do not like and frog and reknit. I have no problems with this. I owuld rather reknit than look at it each time and say "Hmm, should have used a crochet cast on, or should have gone down a needle size" I know from experience that will make me Nuts.

Socks for Oma Blu

Oma Blu is my neighbor. She is possibly the BEST neighbor in the world! I can ask her to watch my son OR care for my animals. She brings us Wegman's rotissary chicken on a regular basis and just yesterday dropped off a big box of Christmas cookies from the Swedish pastery shop (that I had no idea even existed). She is so good to us! Anyway, she had a tough year with some health stuff and I wanted to knit her something special, specifically socks. Not just any socks, socks knit from Austermann Step with Aloe Vera and Jojoba Oil. (a good German sock yarn. Oma is German for Grandmother, get it?) Anyway, here they are, just finished! I really hope she likes them..... she is a tough one to shop OR knit for. (notice I matched the striping, not sure how she would like non-matching stripes) I'm a little nervous, if she likes them GREAT, but if she dosen't.... well. What do you give the Blue Granny for Christmas?

a couple of FO's

Here are the fingerless gloves I just finished for ME! Yippie! one skein of Frog Tree Merino, can you say Yummy?! I'm going to knit the Calorimetry pattern from Knitty to match. Hey, I may actually look put together someday! I also did the Washcloth KAL for December (the rocking horse) and got isnpired to knit 2 more, Santa and the snowflake. I'm going to put them in a nice Christmas basket with one of the new foaming dish soaps, and keep as an "emergency" gift. Speaking of gifts.... everybody done their shopping yet? I am. done shopping that is! Plus I'm almost finished with the *important* gift knitting, you know, the ones you really need to give On Time? Whoot! Now I just have to finish the food list for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and I'll be set!
(hope this does not come back to haunt me!)

Dress socks

1 pair of brown dress socks, made to order for DH. I WILL get him wearing hand knits, if it kills us both! Actually this is a test pair to see if he really likes them. If I get the green light, the next pair is *gasp* BLACK. Ohhhh my eyes!

Happy St Nicholas Day

December 6 is St Nicholas Day! So today St Nick left the boy a present in the fireplace. Rather than putting something in his shoes (as the tradition goes) he gave new shoes! The boy was THRILLED. And to match the new Ligtning McQueen cars shoes, the Cars dvd! Does he look excited?

Yes there is knitting going on here... just no good photos at the moment and still some stealth knitting........... pics later

Saturday Shop Window

Ok so I missed a shot of the sky today. Between breakfast with Santa and changing the shop window, I ran out of daylight. Anyway, here is the new Christmas window! Ta-da! I just need some more icicle lights to hang around the top of the big window and a wreath over the mantle we are done.
